Feature Request: non-modal properties panel

 The edit properties dialogs in FlashBack Pro are all modal: each and every time the user wants to change a property, he/she is required to double-click an object, change the properties, and close the dialog.

The dialog's UX behaviour is modal: it is not possible to interact with the application until that properties dialog is closed.

When a lot of text annotations are added and edited the modal dialog becomes a real pain, forcing a lot of extra clicking.

A secondary related pain point is that the properties aren't applied until the user confirms that dialog. That again means a lot of back and forth clicking and opening/closing of the modal properties dialog.

Instead, my request would be that the developers consider changing the behaviour of that dialog in two ways:

  1. change the behaviour to a non-modal one and allow the user to keep the properties dialog open while working;
  2. apply changes made by the user instantly to the selected object.

These simple changes would dramatically speed up the overall workflow in FlashBack.

Ideally the properties dialog ought to be dockable to either the right or left side of the screen as well (which would also be handy for the other panels and the timeline).

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. In FlashBack v6 we intend to edit object properties in a non-modal way, via controls in the left side panel.

Super, thanks. Any ETA on the release of version 6 yet?

Hi,

I'm afraid not :(  We're busy with a new product right now and with a new user interface for FlashBack Recorder, but we'll get to v6 and the new editing interface sometime.
