Is there an easier way to select a long series of frames?

If you select the first frame, move to the final frame and then hold Shift when you click on it, that will select all frames inbetween as well.

When I need to delete a few seconds' worth of frames, there seems to be no other way than to go to the first frame in that segment, press shift, and move down the frames using the arrow key to the last frame.
Is there an easier way?
It would be nice if there was a keystroke that initiates the "selection" mode, which will select the current frame and the next frame you select and anything in between.
